It’s hard to believe, I know, but The Center for Public Integrity has issued a report that lies were told in Washington – on purpose.

“Following 9/11, President Bush and seven top officials of his administration waged a carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.”

The report also takes the media to task for regurgitating what the White House was spewing.

“The cumulative effect of these false statements — amplified by thousands of news stories and broadcasts — was massive, with the media coverage creating an almost impenetrable din for several critical months in the run-up to war. Some journalists — indeed, even some entire news organizations — have since acknowledged that their coverage during those prewar months was far too deferential and uncritical. “

All this isn’t exactly news, of course, but it’s nice that it’s all compiled in one place. And it does make one wonder: what’s really going on in Iran?
