On September 25th, my blogger buddy Cato posted that the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry will be stationed in the United States. He was outraged, as we should all be.

On October 1st, Lew Rockwell picked up the story:

“The Army Times reports that the 3rd Infantry’s 1st Brigade Combat Team is returning from Iraq to defend the Homeland, as ‘an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.’”

See here for the complete story.

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 forbids this, unless by an Act of Congress.

The militarization of civilian police and civil defense activities is an extremely serious warning signal of dictatorship coming to America, along with the federalization of the National Guard.

With such pieces in place, a government transformation to dictatorship could happen at any time and happen very swiftly.

Civilians now have an incentive to ramp up their own weaponry and their own resistance skills to counter this kind of threat.

In addition, this sort of move encourages capital flight from the U.S. as well as the flight of people.

Yesterday, CNN posted an in-depth article about all this.

Today, I stumbled across the reason for this move. It seems that Washington really, really wanted the $700 billion bailout bill passed. In fact, they wanted it so bad that they threatened some House members with martial law, no idle threat now that the troops are at hand. Listen to Rep. Brad Sherman:

So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men. -Voltaire

Do you care, America?
It’s time to wake up!

Thank you for alerting me of this! I will amend my post immediately.

Jean, why don’t we all just scrap CNN and NBC and the Mickey Mouse channel and put blogger like you in charge?

Cato, you’re the one that found the story in the first place! For what’s ahead, I think it will need all of us.

As for the news media? Check out livestation.com. I just posted about it:

I would like to know just who was doing the warning. We should have named-calling on the floor of Congress.

And I am amazed that people don’t turn out in droves at this. For heaven’s sake, I’m amazed it was on C-Span!

Cato is right. Bloggers like you should be responsible for reporting.

Thanks for this post. I wondered about the “martial law” thing myself.

Hi Jean. You’d asked about the eavesdropping cell phone NY court case. One such article is here:

You’re right, Herky. In fact, I’m going to keep digging on this one. Illegal martial law? Who arrests the government when they’re breaking the law?

Rebecca, thank you so much for digging that out and letting me know! I will check it out … tomorrow. :)

Hmmm. Maybe that’s why the troops were stationed back here in the States — to preclude the danger of a citizens’ arrest or something.

Anyway. I’m not going to hurry them into it with my comment. Thanks again for posting this.
