Ironically, after I posted my recent George Washington FFQF, who may have been the last president who hoped to maintain the character of an honest man, I came across a post by Gary Reed detailing some presidential lies. He listed (gasp!) Lincoln (Civil War), Wilson (WWI), Roosevelt (WWII), and of course GW, who have lied to lead our country into war, and then quoted political economist Robert Higgs:

“The enormous losses of life, property, and liberty that Americans have sustained in wars have occurred in large part because of the public’s unwarranted trust in what their leaders told them before leading them into war.”

We know this. We know that politicians lie. So why do we believe them? Why do we vote for them? Are we really that gullible, or are we just too scared or lazy to fight for truth and honor?
