Welcome to the Word for Wednesday meme. Each week, you’re invited to counter the words of our secular world with the words of the Bible. Be sure to leave a link to your post here in the comments!

This post has two videos that give us a peek at the world that is coming. In the first, a policeman in England tells a street preacher that it’s a crime to say homosexuality is a sin. The second, ironically also from England, promotes an atheist ad campaign on city buses.

Make no mistake. Laws aimed at outlawing “hate speech” such as HR 1913 are really laws aimed at outlawing Christianity.

Soon all Christians will have the opportunity to be blessed by suffering for the cross. The only question remaining is if we’ll suffer the consequences of our faith – or deny our Christ.

Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:11-12)

For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. (Romans 1:26-32)

But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

I think the Spirit is telling me something this morning. As I look at Paul's list above, it comes to me that every item applies to me, to some extent. I am not discouraged, oddly enough, because of that phrase "to some extent." Without the work of the Lord in my life, I'm pretty sure that extent would be substantially greater. I'm also confident, based on Philippians 1:6, that next year the "extent" will be smaller than it is now, and that one day it will be zero.

Meanwhile, life goes on, here in enemy-occupied territory. I am inspired to head out today and participate in the insurgency. Maybe I can tuck away a usefully-located spiritual IED in the Atheism Highway.

And, before I forget, here's my WFW link.

I was listening to a radio talk show yesterday and it was actually encouraging. The host was speaking about the religious revival in the Netherlands. Maybe that will spread out to the rest of Europe!

Jim, I like your thought and I'll tuck it away. I think maybe the difference between you and others is that you recognize and acknowledge your sin, instead of ignoring it or or laughing it off or trying to justify it.

Lisa, that's a cheery idea, but if you look at where the Netherlands have been, it's gonna take a mighty big revival to turn the whole country around, no less influence the rest of Europe. Likewise here, I think.

Thanks for posting and for your comments. Also note that Rebecca has posted today, as well:
