Betsy McCaughey, in an interview with former presidential candidate Fred Thompson on his radio show warned people to “protect their parents” from the measure and said the consultation is essentially an attempt to kill off elderly Americans.

She also stated in this report from LifeNews that the message to patients is “to do what’s in society’s best interests, and cut your life short.”

In other words, old people are a non-productive drain on the state. No wonder Obama says we’re not a Christian nation.

This “euthanasia” fantasy is a radical rightwingnut attempt to needlessly scare people. It’s a complete lie. Here’s the truth:

Thanks for the link, Diogenes, but your characterization of this as a "fantasy" is a matter of interpretation.

While stating that the Betsey McCaughey claim is erroneous, Snopes acknowledges that the claim is a "mistaken interpretation of a complicated section of lengthy legislative bill" and herein lies the problem.

Complicated, lengthy legislation is, by nature, open to interpretation, which means that the initial legislation will be interpreted by the various government agencies involved. As they issue their subsequent directives, these, too, will be interpreted on down the chain to individual doctors and healthcare workers.

You're far more trusting of this government process than I am.

Just for the record, Diogenes is spamming lots of blogs with this exact same message/same wording about the health care bill.

Thanks, anon. I guess he wants his interpretation to take precedence. :)
