Thanks for stopping by, Ken. I’m with you on the weakness/strength thought, and it’s a good point. I’m a little confused, though, by this part:

You got a scripture to go with that?

Great word. If I may, though, I’d like to offer some clarification.

As Christians, we believe that our submitting to the Lord IS an act of defiance. Not only that, since it is in our weakness that he is strong, when we submit, we are strongest.

Part of the paradox of the Kingdom, I suppose: in submitting like sheep, we are strong like lions.

Great post! And OOOOO it goes SO against modern thought that it makes me salivate with satisfaction, muahahahha!

But it is true– humans are hard-wired to follow.

And I also recall something that a former Speaker of the House once said (this was waaay back, back when there were statesmen in government and not politicians):

All societies of men must be governed in some way or other. The less they may have of stringent State Government, the more they must have of individual self-government. The less they rely on public law or physical force, the more they must rely on private moral restraint. Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled, either by a power within them, or by a power without them; either by the Word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible, or by the bayonet. It may do for other countries and other governments to talk about the State supporting religion. Here, under our own free institutions, it is Religion which must support the State.

@Lisa You’re right, “sheeple” is the current great American insult – like “Your mother wears combat boots” was when I was young. And yet, the same people who apply it to others are usually blind to their own sheepish tendencies. American Idol, anyone?

@Alice Yes, of course TV is our best source of information. And the older I get, the more I realize how related submission and peace are.

Very true post. Often people will say, “I’m my own man, I will do what I want.” and then turn around and say some wacko thing because “They said so on TV!”
It is true, in submission there is peace.

Everyone who is against some group or organization today uses the term “sheeple.” All of us are sheep in some way, but who is our shepherd? Are they looking out for us or leading us off a cliff?
