J. D. Tuccille has posted another article about Obama’s plan to force our kids, and maybe everybody else, to “volunteer” – all directed by the feds, of course. The article has many related links which I won’t duplicate, but the following is taken directly from Obama’s “transition website,” on the America Serves (when & where you’re told) page.
The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.
If you’ve ever considered homeschooling, this might be a good time to start – and the following definitions might make a good first lesson about America. I’ve also posted a video, to help you get a feel for what this all might look like.
conscription: compulsory enrollment of persons especially for military service; see draft
draft: an act or process of selecting an individual without the individual’s expressed consent
fascism: a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of oppositiontotalitarianism: centralized control by an autocratic authority; the political concept that the citizen should be totally subject to an absolute state authority
