J.D. Tuccille has an excellent post up about Obama’s many calls for transparency in government. You do remember all the outrage about “extraordinary rendition” whereby we transported terrorism suspects to countries that don’t have laws against torture, don’t you?

Alas, a recent court case has revealed that Obama has adopted the Bush position that this procedure involves “state secrets” that would jeopardize our country (or the hacks that run it?) if revealed.

Entry #3:

transparency = none of your business

We’ve all heard ad nauseum about Obama pushing for alternative energy.

Now we hear that he’s considering moving the nation’s nuclear laboratories out of the Department of Energy … and into the Department of Defense. Could this be a sap for the generals who are trying to undermine a withdrawal from Iraq?

The plot thickens.

Entry #2:

nuclear power plants = nuclear weapons

In addition to the White House, it seems our new president has inherited from our old president a love for illegal spying on US citizens. (hat tip to the Chestnut Tree Cafe.)

The Obama administration fell in line with the Bush administration Thursday when it urged a federal judge to set aside a ruling in a closely watched spy case weighing whether a U.S. president may bypass Congress and establish a program of eavesdropping on Americans without warrants.

So it occurs to me that, even though this is well-past 1984, perhaps we need a new Obama Dictionary, just so we can all keep up.

Entry #1:

change = stay the course
